C'est avec tristesse et émotion que j'apprenne le décès de Mme Lucie Nizigama. Elle est une des ces héroïnes inconnues pour la plupart de gens, de ceux qui travaillent avec conviction, compromis et courage dans l'anonymat pour un monde meilleur. J'ai eu l'honneur et le plaisir de travailler avec elle et aussi de partager un peu de sa vie. Sa voix douce et son sourire me manqueront ; j'espère son exemple me servira d'inspiration et motivation, dans ce moments difficiles ou on perd l'espoir.
On September 6th, Lucie Nizigama, a burundian prominent activist who devoted her life to fight for women and children rights passed away. Lucie suffered from a long illness that she fought with courage, optimism and dignity. She was a woman of great heart and character whose sky was the limit to fight for the rights of the most vulnerable people. Among the legacy she leaves is a study on rape in Burundi entitled "Burundi: No protection from rape in war and peace"; which led to a national campain against sexual violence. May she rest in peace and may she continue to be an inspiration to us all.
En memoria de Lucie Nizigama, una de esas heroinas desconocidas para la mayoria; de esas que dedican su vida y trabajo con conviccion, compromiso y valor a intentar mejorar el mundo y a los derechos humanos. Una mujer excepcional, dulce y trabajadora, que dedico su vida a otros y otras. Que su trabajo, tenacidad y conviccion sirvan de luz, ejemplo e inspiracion. Descansa en paz ma belle.
