I am OVER it!

I am over rape.
I am over rape culture, rape mentality, rape pages on Facebook.
I am over the thousands of people who signed those pages with their real names without shame.
I am over people demanding their right to rape pages, and calling it freedom of speech or justifying it as a joke.
I am over people not understanding that rape is not a joke and I am over being told I don't have a sense of humor, and women don't have a sense of humor, when most women I know (and I know a lot) are really fucking funny. We just don't think that uninvited penises up our anus, or our vagina is a laugh riot.
I am over how long it seems to take anyone to ever respond to rape.
I am over Facebook taking weeks to take down rape pages.
I am over the hundreds of thousands of women in Congo still waiting for the rapes to end and the rapists to be held accountable.
I am over the thousands of women in Bosnia, Burma, Pakistan, South Africa, Guatemala, Sierra Leone, Haiti, Afghanistan, Libya, you name a place, still waiting for justice.
I am over rape happening in broad daylight.
I am over the 207 clinics in Ecuador supported by the government that are capturing, raping, and torturing lesbians to make them straight.
I am over one in three women in the U.S military (Happy Veterans Day!) getting raped by their so-called "comrades."
I am over the forces that deny women who have been raped the right to have an abortion.
I am over the fact that after four women came forward with allegations that Herman Cain groped them and grabbed them and humiliated them, he is still running for the President of the United States.
And I'm over CNBC debate host Maria Bartiromo getting booed when she asked him about it. She was booed, not Herman Cain.
Which reminds me, I am so over the students at Penn State who protested the justice system instead of the alleged rapist pedophile of at least 8 boys, or his boss Joe Paterno, who did nothing to protect those children after knowing what was happening to them.
I am over rape victims becoming re-raped when they go public.
I am over starving Somalian women being raped at the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya, and I am over women getting raped at Occupy Wall Street and being quiet about it because they were protecting a movement which is fighting to end the pillaging and raping of the economy and the earth, as if the rape of their bodies was something separate.
I am over women still being silent about rape, because they are made to believe it's their fault or they did something to make it happen.
I am over violence against women not being a #1 international priority when one out of three women will be raped or beaten in her lifetime -- the destruction and muting and undermining of women is the destruction of life itself.
No women, no future, duh.
I am over this rape culture where the privileged with political and physical and economic might, take what and who they want, when they want it, as much as they want, any time they want it.
I am over the endless resurrection of the careers of rapists and sexual exploiters -- film directors, world leaders, corporate executives, movie stars, athletes -- while the lives of the women they violated are permanently destroyed, often forcing them to live in social and emotional exile.
I am over the passivity of good men. Where the hell are you?
You live with us, make love with us, father us, befriend us, brother us, get nurtured and mothered and eternally supported by us, so why aren't you standing with us? Why aren't you driven to the point of madness and action by the rape and humiliation of us?
I am over years and years of being over rape.
And thinking about rape every day of my life since I was 5-years-old.
And getting sick from rape, and depressed from rape, and enraged by rape.
And reading my insanely crowded inbox of rape horror stories every hour of every single day.
I am over being polite about rape. It's been too long now, we have been too understanding.
We need to OCCUPYRAPE in every school, park, radio, TV station, household, office, factory, refugee camp, military base, back room, night club, alleyway, courtroom, UN office. We need people to truly try and imagine -- once and for all -- what it feels like to have your body invaded, your mind splintered, your soul shattered. We need to let our rage and our compassion connect us so we can change the paradigm of global rape.
There are approximately one billion women on the planet who have been violated.
ONE BILLION WOMEN.
The time is now. Prepare for the escalation.
Today it begins, moving toward February 14, 2013, when one billion women will rise to end rape.
Because we are over it.

conquisto paso a paso..

(a veces pequeños, a veces enormes)
de más
dignidad, justicia, social, equidad género, derechos humanos...

On September 6th, Lucie Nizigama, a burundian prominent activist who devoted her life to fight for women and children rights passed away. Lucie suffered from a long illness that she fought with courage, optimism and dignity. She was a woman of great heart and character whose sky was the limit to fight for the rights of the most vulnerable people. Among the legacy she leaves is a study on rape in Burundi entitled "Burundi: No protection from rape in war and peace"; which led to a national campain against sexual violence. May she rest in peace and may she continue to be an inspiration to us all.

how universally easy it is to go back

I had been considering it for a long time, probably like so many others...we do think about it but socially it's so complicated we actually never do so

a very dear friend to whom i failed terribly (and of little matter is the unconsciousness or unintentionality) and i were exposed in recent days to some pretty nasty microscopic fibres, their effects quite difficult to calculate for the time being; reading about these nasty fibres, one of the main warnings was to quit smoking, for the fibres affect the lungs....and so does smoking....pretty awful combination innit?

so! after my reading of the theory, my ponding over time and my recent scare, i should say i have enough elements to put words into practice and actually QUIT, again, for good

really, in honest truth, it's the "again" the problem... like i've just read: "The factor that really shows the addiction is not how hard or how easy it is to quit. What really shows the addiction is how universally easy it is to go back." The same website's main advice, repeated over and over and over again is hard and simple: NEVER EVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF! ANOTHER PUFF!

hard to plan the day

I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day. - E. B. White

time flies....

a week ago i was in the franco-italian city of my heart, re-finding unions and connections that life and laziness help evaporate....yet not totally
two weeks ago i was in the brit-american experience, with harry potter dancing in the streets and law, aspiration and the deeply rooted belief on a better world dancing in books and conversations alike....yet with commonalities in spite oceans of separation
five weeks ago i was enjoying family company in a foreign land for them, for us, for me; an impasse in time and space, yet its signification still to fully come to me....not just yet

today an inspirational company needing support and 'courage' (to be pronounced the french way)... yet as pleasurable as usual
tomorrow a long awaited arrival......yet am i ready for it?

lessons from a 90 years old lady

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; life never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else. 20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no foran answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over-prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
35. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
36. Your children get only one childhood.
37. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
38. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
39. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'dgrab ours back.
40. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
41. The best is yet to come...
42. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
43. Yield.
44. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

following instructions

A friend posted in his 'caralibro': Wherever you are right now, grab the book nearest you. * Turn to page 56. * Find the fifth sentence. * Post that sentence AS YOUR STATUS. Then post these instructions in a COMMENT on your status. * Don't dig for your favorite book -- use the CLOSEST book.

Mine was: "Capital punishment is now viewed as a human right violation by the European community, and on this ground, Europeans routinely excoriate the United States, where the death penalty remains in force in some jurisdictions....."

Killer

For an all-expense-paid, one-week vacation anywhere in the world, would you be willing to kill a beautiful butterfly by pulling off its wings? [What about stepping on a cockroach?]

this week

started with a 10 hour meeting on finances and procedures, useful, but...... not my cup of tea
it followed by two days of too much work and too little time, some IT difficulties, some frustrating telephone conversations, and a reinforced feeling of needing a break

on the other hand,

after years of lobbying, 5 to be precise, somebody far away finally got connected to skype and by a good coincidence a chat between burundi, mexico and spain happened, wallahi!

an unemployed friend shared frustrations and challenges with the optimism that characterises the person, and gave some perspective to my past and present situations; it is always interesting to compare how one reacted, how someone else does so, and to learn from the positivity some people manage to emanate

another friend did a test that came up with 'you have a natural tendency to surround yourself by positive people'...and it makes you think, not only the people that make your life, but yourself as well, how could you change towards having a more positive attitude, not just on the good times, but also on the bad

the locals here, when asked 'how are you' always answer 'a little'; going a bit local, i started answering the same way, until someone said to me this week 'oh, if bazungus (white people) start saying 'a little' then i need to worry!', and blimey he had a point! we have jobs, money, great houses, access to everything we want (ish)...... answering 'a little', i hadn't realised that the mentality behind was creeping on me, like a mental state that starts becoming a permanent attire

it makes me think of yet another friend who with a swiss determination decides that tomorrow she will get up in a good mood and with a smile

despite this morning grey mood, and a rather challenging meeting this morning (patience, god, give me patience) a little turn must happen, i must remember this week, in its entirety, the good and the bad, what i need to learn and remember, what i need to practice, tending towards positivity, the way forward, the way i want to go

i should take note and learn from my 'teachers' this week
i shall do a positive analysis exercise this weekend, to enjoy and celebrate what i have!
i remember it also being a new year resolution shared with my sister
must remember, must practice

preguntas y respuestas
