on politics, football and priorities

there were elections in my home town last sunday
although Change didn't happen, another political and social equilibrium will need to be sought among very diverse political parties; the traditional and historic leaders not longer so, in total monopoly of power (simplifying things obviously)
curious, i looked at the website of a local newspaper today, i was seriously appalled
more than half of the first page (including scrolling down) was dedicated to the upcoming! football match of the local team, some basketball articles and photos and then........at the bottom of the page, there, nearly as a footnote, the negotiations and moves by the political parties to form the regional government
while understanding the oppressing political atmosphere, the tiredness of the population with those same politicians and that people need escape routes..... i find officially pathetic the level of political and social anesthesia

the more i know and think about conflict, the one back home is characterised by the fact people live far too well, so they're more worried about the next football match than the oh-so-important nationalist ideas

like my bearded better half points out, if there wasn't football for at least 3 months, people would start to think and probably realise far too many things
imagine Italy starts thinking about their absolutely immune leader.....
imagine the british thinking seriously about those City bankers who pocketed outrageous sums of money.....
imagine the french or those from the USA (with baseball) thinking about their arms exports.....
imagine...... just like Lennon sang
